I know that is a foolish statement; however I do want a daily M3. I know most logical option would be to ditch the E92 and then DD the paid for M3 I already own, but I don’t want to do that. Primarily, I want to keep the E90 as long as possible and turning it into a daily driver might be a detriment to that. I talked to a guy at cars and coffee with an E30 M3 who has owned it since 1997, I want to be on that level; I’ve only had my M3 since 2014. So the most logical, to me, solution would be to get another M3.

Kinja'd!!!

Now, I couldn’t get another E90 M3 with a stick, I would have to get something different. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , plus the DCT cars don’t command the premium that the 6MT cars do. It would be differnt enough where they wouldn’t be identical. While I prefer a manual, I don’t need to it to breathe, and if I got another manual M3 I would never drive my E90.

My M3, apart from the throttle position actuators , has been very reliable. That might because I am the second owner and I got the car with a mere 15.7k miles on it. I would be concerned that a high mileage M3 wouldn’t be as bullet proof. So between this and the fact that I’m pretty upside on the E92, I’m probably not going to get another M3. Life is strange at times, who knows, I might get an E9X M3 within the next year. I wouldn’t hold my breathe though.

My E92 turned off on me the other day during shattering t !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , so I kind of want to ditch it. When it’s working good, I really enjoy it, but I don’t want to spend M3 money on fixing it. So if you want a slightly broken low mileage two owner E92 328i inquire within.

I think we’ve had this discussion before, but get a E46 M3 that is loaded. The leather quality is incredible, they are comfortable, have heated seats, etc . Honestly it is nicer equipped than the mini I used to have. The only sticking point is Bluetooth. Drive the crap out of it, get a 6 speed or SMG. Doesn’t really matter. In a few years you can probably sell it for at least what you bought it for.

Mine has been pretty good, but then again I got a well maintained low mileage one owner car. I also don’t daily mine, so that might help.

I think an IS-F might actually be a contender. The two things I don’t like about it are the lack of a manual and the infotainment. Those aren’t deal breakers though.

Let me get this straight, you want to keep miles off of your four door, manual M3 so you’re thinking about buying the same M3 but with fewer doors and a less robust transmission?

Man, just daily your M3. It seems like you want to daily it but also want to keep it forever, which makes you not want to daily it. The depreciation and running costs of an entire second M3 would give you a lot of money to put into your current one if you put miles onto it. And if your biggest concern is the cost associated with running an E9x M3 or feel bad ‘using up’ your current one now you’ll just also get attached to the second one and feel bad using that one up too and it’ll cost the same to run . I get knowing what you like and see you don’t care that much about variety but there are tons of cars that are fun for $25kish that are almost as fun, less expensive to run and you won’t form the same attachment with, which in this case is a good thing because you can just drive it without fretting over the miles you put on it.

Did someone say Chevy SS?

Kinja'd!!! E90M3 > jasmits
06/25/2018 at 12:53

Kinja'd!!!0

It’s not very logical, I know. I put 27000 miles on the 3 last year, I didn’t want to put that kind of mileage on the M3. I could probably daily it now, but since I already have two cars, I don’t. I also owe more on the 3 than it’s worth, I knew that going into it. I would like to get another one, but this is extremely unlikely.

As far as the SS goes:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!! jasmits > E90M3
06/25/2018 at 13:08

Kinja'd!!!0

Right, I see all that but I feel like if you did get another it’ll make you feel better for a little and then once you start getting attached and also notice the odo is climbing you’ll get the same mileage anxiety for that one and obviously it’ll cost the same to run, or more if anything because of the DCT.

SS’s are definitely hard to find but like you said you could daily your M3 for awhile or keep dailying the 3 despite some weirdness so it’s not like you need to find a car this week. As an aside who the hell is spending 36k on a damn Impala?!?

I’m currently racking up miles like you were so I decided to forget about BMWs for awhile and get a Tacoma. It’ll eat the miles without any weirdness popping up and even if I start driving like a normal person again/let myself go back to a multi-vehicle fleet I always like having a truck around. And o n the off chance I get tired of it a 3 year old Tacoma with 100k is still somehow worth 30 grand so it was minimal risk.

Why would you want a second car that is so similar to the first? Even the 328i is too similar to an M3 in my opinion. They are both 3-Series cars. If you had an E30 M3 this would make more sense, but an E90 isn’t destined to be quite as collectible. For a second vehicle I’d get something different. Like s omething for outdoor adventures such as  a Jeep Wrangler or Land Rover Defender .

So, having read this whole discussion so far...

Why?

I DD my E36, so I understand the “why DD” question.

I also understand the “I’ll have trouble replacing it” mentality. E36 M3/4/5s are just getting harder to find, and getting more expensive.

But if it gives you joy to drive it every day like mine does for me, what are you saving it for - isn’t that why you bought it?

Have you really thought about why you want to pre serve the car? It’ll certainly cost you less to maintain than buying a full second car.

I s it an investment?

So when I drove it everyday, it became a little mundane, lost a little of the luster. There is also something about only being in the car because you want to, not because you have to.

If I had bought something as an investment , I would have gotten a 1M. I actually bought it to drive everyday, but my job at the time didn’t allow it. So it’s never really been a DD, apart from when I was unemployed but I didn’t have a commute then.

They are getting harder to find and it’s peace of mind to know it’s safe in the garage and not baking in sun all day. I was at my friends house yesterday and some heavy thunderstorms passed over and I was slightly worried about damage, as unlikel y as that was. I get joy from driving it, and as weird as this sounds, I think I enjoy it more as my weekend only car. I took it to work a couple times when I was in Savannah and mid-trip I always wondered why, it’s no fun to just sit on the highway in it.

I like my E92, but I don’t care about it the way I do the M3.

Yeah, the SS would be a car I would spend a lot of time looking for.

I figured highway miles wouldn’t be too bad, so I got the 3. I knew if I didn’t get something I wanted, I would do something financially stupid to get something I wanted.
